IIHS and NHTSA Safety Ratings: What Do They Mean?

Safety ratings may be one of your top priorities when it comes to any vehicle you buy. Knowing what the various safety ratings are will allow you to make an informed decision on which vehicle is best for your family.

Two organizations handle safety ratings in the U.S.: the IIHS and the NHTSA. Each offers different rating systems to assess each vehicle. The IIHS rates vehicles as Poor, Marginal, Acceptable, or Good. If a car performs well it may get the designation of Top Safety Pick. Those that perform at an outstanding level can earn the Top Safety Pick+.

NHTSA ratings use stars, with one star being the lowest rating and five stars being the best. They don't award special designations. If you are looking for a vehicle that ranks the highest on both the IIHS and the NHTSA scales, stop by DCH Subaru of Riverside in Riverside, CA today to look at our selection.
